What To Expect

Route: Addis Ababa – Jinka – Turmi Board your morning domestic flight (ET 271) from Addis Ababa to Jinka, the official gateway to the lower Omo region. Upon arrival, meet your professional guide and private 4WD vehicle to begin a scenic overland drive south to Turmi. Traverse rolling semi-arid hills dotted with pastoral communities before arriving at a traditional Hamer village. Famous for their intricate, copper-colored braided hairstyles, elaborate beadwork, and rich pastoral customs, the Hamer will welcome you to learn about their daily lifestyles. Time permitting, enjoy local evening village activities.

Overlooking the sweeping bends of the Omo River, the Karo are celebrated as Africa's master artists, using natural chalk and mineral pigments for elaborate ceremonial body painting. Next, continue south to the border town of Omorate to encounter the semi-nomadic Dassanech tribe, crossing the Omo River via traditional wooden dugout boats to reach their unique riverside settlement.
