What To Expect

Day 1: Addis Ababa ✈ Jinka – Mursi Tribe – Turmi – Hamer Tribe

Catch your morning domestic flight (ET 271) from Addis Ababa to Jinka, where your Omo Valley guide and private 4WD vehicle await. Drive directly into the surrounding hills to visit the iconic Mursi tribe, internationally renowned for their unique clay lip plates, elaborate ear modifications, and fierce cultural identity. After an intimate look at their village life, continue the scenic drive south to Turmi. In the late afternoon, immerse yourself in a pastoral Hamer village, famous for their intricately braided hair, traditional hide clothing, and spirited evening dances. If aligned with local schedules, you may have the opportunity to witness the legendary Bull Jumping Ceremony—a rite of passage for young Hamer men.

Overnight: Buska Lodge (Turmi).

Day 2: Dassanech Tribe (Omorate) – Karo Tribe – Turmi

Drive south to the border town of Omorate to encounter the semi-nomadic Dassanech tribe. Cross the sweeping Omo River in a traditional dugout boat to explore their distinctive riverside settlements and learn about their creative handmade jewelry crafted from recycled materials. In the afternoon, journey to the banks of the Omo River to visit the Karo tribe, the masters of body art. Marvel at their elaborate chalk body painting, decorative scarification, and dramatic cliffside village views overlooking the river bends. This afternoon also provides a secondary opportunity to attend a Hamer Bull Jumping Ceremony if available.

Overnight: Buska Lodge (Turmi).

Day 3: Turmi – Konso Tribe – Arbaminch

Enjoy a hot breakfast before embarking on a beautiful highland drive toward Arbaminch. En route, stop to explore the fortified stone villages of the Konso tribe, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its 400-year-old stone terraces and sustainable, high-altitude agricultural practices. Discover their tight-knit social structures, unique generation poles, and Waga wooden grave carvings. Conclude the day by driving down into the Great Rift Valley to check into your resort.

Overnight: Haile Resort (Arbaminch).

Day 4: Dorze Tribe – Arbaminch ✈ Addis Ababa

Ascend into the mist-shrouded Guge Mountains to visit the colorful Dorze tribe. Famous for their architectural mastery, you will tour their towering bamboo houses shaped like elephant heads, which can last up to 80 years. Witness their legendary cotton weaving techniques, sample traditional flatbread made from the Enset (false banana) plant, and participate in an energetic cultural dance accompanied by local music. In the afternoon, transfer to the Arbaminch Airport for your return flight (ET 134) back to Addis Ababa, concluding your historic Southern Omo Valley Cultural Tour.
