Your cultural adventure begins in Arba Minch, where you meet your guide and begin the drive south toward Jinka, the gateway to the Omo Valley, Ethiopia. Along the way, you pass through the Konso region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its terraced agriculture and unique stone-walled villages. Stop for a short visit in a Konso village to explore their customs and clan-based society. Continue the scenic drive through the rolling hills and valleys of southern Ethiopia, arriving in Jinka by late afternoon. Settle into your lodge and rest for the night.
In the morning, drive into Mago National Park to visit the Mursi people, one of the most iconic tribes in the Omo Valley, Ethiopia. The Mursi are known for their distinctive lip plates and body scarification practices. After spending time in a Mursi village learning about their traditions, return to Jinka briefly before continuing to Turmi, the home of the Hamar people. Upon arrival in Turmi, you may have the opportunity to witness a traditional Hamar dance or a bull-jumping ceremony—an important rite of passage for young men.
After breakfast, drive to the village of Kolcho on the banks of the Omo River to visit the Karo people, a small but visually striking tribe renowned for their elaborate body and face painting. Spend time with the community, observe their rituals, and learn about their daily life. Return to Turmi in the afternoon to interact with the Hamar people, perhaps participating in a traditional coffee ceremony. Overnight in Turmi.
Depart early from Turmi and head south toward Omorate. Cross the Omo River in a local canoe to visit the Dassanech tribe, semi-nomadic people known for their adaptive lifestyle and intricate hairstyles.
