What To Expect

Day 1: Addis Ababa – Jinka | Ari Culture

Morning flight from Addis Ababa to Jinka, offering scenic views over the Great Rift Valley. Upon arrival at Jinka Airport, meet your guide and transfer to Jinka town, the main gateway to the Omo Valley. Visit a traditional Ari village to learn about daily life, agriculture, pottery making, and metalwork. Experience a local coffee ceremony and gain insight into traditional food and drink preparation. Continue to the South Omo Research Center and Museum for an introduction to the ethnic groups of the region. In the evening, transfer to Eco Omo Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Jinka – Mursi Village – Turmi

Early morning departure toward Mago National Park to visit a Mursi village. Spend time learning about Mursi traditions, pastoral life, body adornment, and cultural symbolism. After the visit, continue driving south toward Turmi through remote Omo Valley landscapes. If the day coincides with Thursday, stop at Key Afer Market, an important trading center for Ari and Banna communities. Arrive in Turmi in the late afternoon and check in at the lodge. Evening village walk if time permits.

Day 3: Turmi – Karo Tribe – Turmi

Drive to Kolcho village overlooking the Omo River to visit the Karo people, known for their distinctive body painting and riverside lifestyle. Enjoy panoramic views of the Omo River before returning to Turmi for lunch. In the afternoon, learn more about Hamer traditions, including coffee rituals and daily village life. If available, attend a Hamer bull-jumping ceremony. Evening at leisure at the lodge.

Day 4: Turmi – Omorate – Konso

Drive to Omorate near the Omo River and cross by traditional canoe to visit the Dassanech community. Learn about their adaptation to the semi-arid environment and river-based lifestyle. Continue north toward Konso, arriving in the afternoon. Visit a Konso village to see terraced farming systems, fortified settlements, and carved wooden waga statues. Evening at the lodge.

Day 5: Konso – Dorze – Arba Minch

Drive into the Guge Mountains to visit a Dorze village. Learn about traditional bamboo houses, handwoven textiles, and enset cultivation. Taste locally prepared kocho bread before continuing to Arba Minch. Check in at the hotel and relax for the evening.

Day 6: Lake Chamo – Arba Minch – Addis Ababa

Morning boat trip on Lake Chamo within Nechisar National Park, known for Nile crocodiles, hippos, and diverse birdlife. Return to the hotel for lunch, then transfer to Arba Minch Airport for the afternoon flight back to Addis Ababa. Arrival in the late afternoon marks the end of the tour.
