Spend the afternoon exploring the impressive monolithic churches, including Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Mariam, Bete Meskal, Bete Denaghel, Bete Golgotha, Bete Mikael, and the iconic Bete Giorgis.

Fly from Addis Ababa to Semera, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. Upon arrival, embark on a scenic 5-6 hour drive to Hamed Ela, stopping at Lake Afdera for lunch and an optional swim. In the evening, visit Lake Asale with its stunning salt flats and enjoy refreshments while admiring the breathtaking views.

After breakfast, set out to explore the colorful and surreal volcanic landscapes of Dallol, one of the lowest places on Earth (-125m below sea level). Witness the striking salt formations, Lake Assal, and the traditional camel caravans transporting salt. After visiting all attractions, drive to Erta Ale, a spectacular shield volcano with the world’s only permanent lava lake. Trek for about an hour to the crater rim to watch the dramatic lava flow before returning to camp for the night.

Drive to Gheralta (approx. 2 hours) to visit Abuna Yemata Guh, a rock-hewn church perched high on a cliffside.
