3 Day Bale Mountains Trekking Tour: Embark on the ultimate high-altitude trekking adventure in one of Africa’s most unique biodiversity hotspots. This 3 Day Bale Mountains Trekking Tour is a professionally guided expedition into the heart of the Bale Mountains National Park, home to the world’s rarest canid—the Ethiopian Wolf. From the misty juniper forests of Dinsho to the dramatic waterfalls of Habera and the wildlife-rich Web Valley, this 3 Day Bale Mountains Trekking Tour offers an unparalleled opportunity to encounter endemic species like the Mountain Nyala and Menelik’s Bushbuck. Experience a seamless blend of pure nature trekking and authentic camping in Ethiopia’s highland paradise with expert-led logistics and all-inclusive service.
Your highland adventure begins with a scenic morning flight from Addis Ababa to Bale Goba. Upon arrival, you will be met by our team and transferred to the Park Headquarters in Dinsho.
We start with an introductory hike through the ancient juniper woodlands, where you are almost guaranteed sightings of the majestic Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck, and Warthogs. Bird enthusiasts will delight in spotting endemics like the Abyssinian Catbird. Following the HQ visit, we trek deeper into the park toward the Habera Waterfall campsite (3,500m). Along this 18km stretch, keep a keen eye out for the rare Ethiopian Wolf patrolling the moors. Overnight: Camping near Habera Waterfall.
After a fresh mountain breakfast, we continue our 18km trek through the breathtaking Web Valley. This region is the prime habitat for the Giant Mole Rat, the main prey of the Ethiopian Wolf, making it the best area in the park for wolf sightings.
The landscape offers a stunning contrast of Afro-alpine moorlands and craggy peaks. As we traverse the valley, we will encounter numerous endemic birds of prey soaring above. We arrive at the Adelay Campsite (3,400m) in the late afternoon, where a professional cook will prepare a warm highland dinner. Overnight: Adelay Campsite.
Our final morning features a gentle 90-minute hike through scenic Hagenia and Juniper forests as we loop back toward Dinsho. This lush woodland provides a final chance to spot the endemic Bale Monkey, Olive Baboons, and vibrant mountain birdlife.
After completing the trek, our vehicle will transfer you back to Bale Goba Airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa. You will return to the capital with a deep appreciation for Ethiopia’s wild and untamed Afro-alpine ecosystems.
