Meet your driver and guide in the morning and drive some 107kms north of the capital to Debrelibanos monastery.
Tucked away in a scenic location surrounded by cliffs, lush greenery and a breathtaking valley below, Debrelibanos is one of the major monasteries and an important religious center for Ethiopian orthodox Christians. It was established during the 13th century by the Ethiopian Saint Tekle Haimanot whose tomb is found here. On arrival visit the monastery with it’s beautiful architecture and stained glass window. The interior is decorated with beautiful wall and ceiling paintings.
The surrounding forest is home to bushbucks and monkeys but its best known to be one of the best birding site in Ethiopia.Visit the museum which houses rich historical and ecclesiastical collections.
Leave the monastery and depart for Addis, after driving a short distance, stop to admire the historical Portuguese bridge and Jemma river valley to admire a picturesque landscape of dramatic cliff and lush vegetation. You have a chance to spot the endemic Gelada baboon grazing in families and birds of prey soaring overhead.
After visiting and photographing this magical wonder, enjoy your picnic lunch with a view and crisp air before driving back to Addis.
