Often referred to as the “New Jerusalem,” Lalibela is famed for its 11 medieval rock-hewn churches, carved directly into solid volcanic rock in the 12th century. Your journey begins with a scenic flight from Addis Ababa to Lalibela, followed by guided visits to both the Northern and Eastern Church clusters, including masterpieces like Bete Medhane Alem, the world’s largest monolithic church, and Bete Giyorgis (St. George) — the iconic cross-shaped church carved into a deep trench.
