Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to a comfortable 4WD vehicle equipped with air conditioning and charging facilities. Afterward, you will enjoy a local lunch in Arbaminch town. Following lunch, the group will head towards the Dorze village, which is located approximately 50 minutes from Arbaminch. The Dorze people are known for their traditional weaving, pottery, and the preparation of Kocho, a local dish made from the false banana tree. You will experience their culture firsthand, including a traditional dance ceremony. The village is surrounded by the breathtaking cliffs of the Gamo Mountains. After exploring the Dorze village, you will return to Arbaminch for an overnight stay at Haile Resort.
Day 2: April 2 – Wednesday: Arbaminch to Konso, Alduba Market, Hamer Tribe Visit, Turmi
The journey begins at 8:00 AM as you depart from Arbaminch for a 2.5-hour drive to Konso. Here, you will visit the UNESCO-listed Konso Highlands, famous for their 500-year-old terracing techniques and fortified stone villages. The Konso people have maintained these traditions for generations, and you will learn about their unique way of life. After the visit, you will enjoy a picnic lunch at Kanta Lodge, Konso, with scenic views. In the afternoon, the group will visit one of the vibrant Omo Valley markets. This market offers an authentic experience, where tribes barter goods in exchange for other goods, rather than using money. Later, you will travel to the Hamer tribe, known for their distinct ochre-colored hairstyles, leather skirts, and jewelry made of shells and copper. The Hamer people are also known for their elaborate ceremonies, including bull jumping. The day will conclude with an overnight stay at Paradise Lodge in Turmi.
Day 3: April 3 – Thursday: Turmi to Nyangatom, Karo Tribe Visit, Jinka
The day begins with a drive to Nyangatom/Bume Village, located on the western side of the Omo River. The Nyangatom people are known for wearing lip plates, with the men using ivory and the women using copper. The women also wear dresses made from goat or sheep skin, often decorated with nails. After visiting the Nyangatom, the group will continue to the Karo tribe’s village of Korcho, located along the Omo River. The Karo are one of the smallest tribes in the region, and their body paint and decorations are part of their distinct cultural identity. Following your visit with the Karo people, you will return to Turmi for lunch. After lunch, the group will head to Jinka to meet the Benna tribe. The Benna are recognized for their “stick-walking boys,” young men chosen by elders to protect the community. They carry long sticks and patrol the village’s roads and paths. You will have the opportunity to meet these young protectors before heading to Nasa Hotel for an overnight stay in Jinka.
Day 4: April 4 – Friday: Mursi Tribe Visit, Jinka to Addis Ababa
On the final day, you will depart early for Mago National Park, which is home to the Mursi tribe. The Mursi people are semi-nomadic and are famous for wearing large lip plates and engaging in stick fights as part of their cultural practices (known as Donga). You will visit a Mursi village and gain insight into their traditional lifestyle. After the visit, the group will return to Jinka for a quick lunch. Following lunch, you will be transferred to Jinka Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa, which departs at 14:05 and arrives at 15:25.
