You’ll engage directly with local farmers on coffee farms and at washing stations, learning the entire coffee production process from bean to cup. The experience culminates in Kaffa, the original home of wild coffee, where you’ll participate in authentic Ethiopian coffee ceremonies and explore the legacy of the world’s most beloved beverage.

What To Expect

Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. Explore Addis Ababa with visits to the Tomoca Coffee shop, Kaldis Coffee, and the vibrant Mercato market. Optional visits include the National Museum or one of the city’s famous churches. Enjoy a traditional Ethiopian dinner with cultural music and dance in the evening.

Day 2: Addis Ababa – Jimma

Depart from Addis Ababa and drive towards Jimma, the heart of Ethiopia’s coffee region. Stop for lunch en route and visit the Jimma Coffee Statue upon arrival.

Day 3: Jimma – Limu Kossa – Mizan Teferi – Bebeka

Visit the Limu Kossa Coffee Plantation in the morning, known for its high-quality Arabica coffee. Return to Jimma for lunch before continuing the drive through Bonga and the Wush Wush Tea Estate to Mizan Teferi. Proceed to Bebeka, home to Ethiopia’s largest and oldest coffee estate.

Day 4: Bebeka Coffee Plantation

Spend the day exploring the Bebeka Coffee Estate, recently acquired by the Midroc Group. Learn about large-scale coffee production and processing.

Day 5: Bebeka – Tepi – Bebeka

Day 6: Bebeka/Mizan Teferi – Sodo

Travel from Mizan Teferi to Sodo, passing through diverse landscapes and coffee-growing areas.

Day 7: Sodo – Yirga Alem

Continue the journey via Boditi, Shashemene, and Awasa to reach Yirga Alem, a region famous for its Sidama coffee. Spend the day exploring the area and participating in a traditional coffee ceremony.

Day 8: Yirga Alem Coffee Tour

Visit the Sidamo coffee region, including the Cola washing station and Efico Foundation project, to learn more about sustainable coffee production.

Day 9: Yirga Alem – Yirga Cheffe – Yirga Alem

Travel further south to visit Yirga Cheffe, one of Ethiopia’s most famous coffee regions. Visit coffee plantations and cooperatives to observe the processing and roasting methods. Explore the Manchiti Rock Engravings near Dilla before returning to Yirga Alem.

Day 10: Yirga Alem – Addis Ababa

Drive back to Addis Ababa with stops at Oromo graves and Lake Zway for birdwatching. Visit dry mills in Kuru before arriving in Addis Ababa. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner before transferring to the airport for departure.
