What To Expect

Day 1: Arrival in Hargeisa – City Tour

Day 1 begins with your arrival in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland. After being welcomed by your local guide at the airport, you are transferred to your hotel for check-in and some time to rest. In the afternoon, you explore Hargeisa with visits to key sites such as the Independence Monument, the central market, and the war memorial featuring the famous MiG fighter jet displayed in the center of the city. You’ll also get a feel for daily life in the capital, meet locals, and enjoy a traditional Somali meal in the evening before resting for the night.

Day 2: Hargeisa – Laas Geel – Berbera

On Day 2, the journey takes you to Laas Geel, one of the most important and best-preserved rock art sites in Africa. Located in the desert outside Hargeisa, these cave paintings date back more than 5,000 years and depict cattle, humans, and wildlife in vivid color. After a guided tour of the site, you continue to the town of Berbera on the Gulf of Aden. Once a strategic port, Berbera offers a mix of colonial Ottoman and British architecture, a vibrant fish market, and a scenic coastal setting. Upon arrival, you check in to a seaside hotel and enjoy fresh seafood while watching the sunset over the Red Sea.

Day 3: Full Day in Berbera – Beaches

Day 3 is spent exploring Berbera and its surroundings. In the morning, you walk through the old town, visiting crumbling but beautiful colonial buildings, local mosques, and the bustling harbor. Later, you head to one of the nearby beaches such as Bathela Beach, where you can relax by the sea or take a swim in the warm waters of the Gulf of Aden. Depending on the day, you may also have the opportunity to interact with local fishermen or camel herders. In the afternoon, there is time to explore more of the town or relax before dinner by the coast.

Day 4: Berbera – Sheikh Mountains – Hargeisa

Day 4 begins with your return drive from Berbera to Hargeisa, but with a stop at the Naasa Hablood hills, also known as the “Twin Hills,” which are considered symbolic landmarks near the capital. Upon arrival back in Hargeisa, you have time to visit additional sites such as the Livestock Market, where camels, goats, and cattle are traded in traditional fashion. You can also explore local bookshops or NGOs to gain a better understanding of Somaliland’s political and cultural aspirations. The day ends with a farewell dinner at a local restaurant featuring Somali dishes and tea.

Day 5: Departure from Hargeisa

  • Day 5 marks the end of the tour. After breakfast, you are transferred to Hargeisa Egal International Airport for your departure.
