What To Expect

1: National Museum of Ethiopia (9:00 AM – 10:30 AM)

Start your day with a visit to one of Ethiopia’s most important museums. The National Museum is home to some of the oldest human fossils in the world, including the famous Lucy (Australopithecus afarensis), which was discovered in Ethiopia and is one of the oldest hominid skeletons ever found. The museum also showcases ancient artifacts, religious icons, and modern art that reflect the rich history and culture of the country.

2: Holy Trinity Cathedral (10:30 AM – 11:30 AM)

After the museum, head to Holy Trinity Cathedral, one of the most significant churches in Ethiopia. Built in the early 20th century, it is not only a place of worship but also a historical site with impressive architecture, beautiful stained-glass windows, and vibrant frescoes. The cathedral houses the tombs of Emperor Haile Selassie and other members of the Ethiopian royal family.

3: Lunch at a Traditional Ethiopian Restaurant (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)

For lunch, dive into traditional Ethiopian cuisine. At Kategna Restaurant or Lucy Restaurant, try a variety of dishes like injera (the famous sour flatbread) served with stews like doro wat (spicy chicken stew) and kitfo (minced raw meat with spices), along with flavorful lentils, vegetables, and cheeses.

4: Ethnological Museum (1:30 PM – 2:30 PM)

The Ethnological Museum, housed in the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie, offers an immersive experience into Ethiopia’s cultural diversity. Here, you’ll find exhibits on the country’s more than 80 ethnic groups, displaying traditional clothing, tools, and household items. You’ll also learn about Ethiopia’s history, from its ancient civilizations to modern times

5: Mount Entoto (3:00 PM – 4:00 PM)

Next, take a drive to Mount Entoto, where you’ll be treated to spectacular panoramic views of Addis Ababa. Entoto was once the site of the capital of Ethiopia before it was moved to Addis Ababa. The area also has historical significance, as it was the location where Emperor Menelik II planned the defense against Italian colonial forces.

6: Merkato Market (4:30 PM – 5:30 PM)

End your day with a visit to Merkato, Africa’s largest open-air market. This bustling marketplace is a sensory overload with its vibrant colors, sounds, and scents.
