What To Expect

Phase 1: The Historic Northern Circuit (Days 1–7)

Day 1-2: Addis Ababa & Bahir Dar

Your journey begins in Addis Ababa with a briefing before flying to Bahir Dar. Explore the source of the Blue Nile and embark on a private boat trip across Lake Tana to visit the 14th-century island monasteries, famous for their vibrant ecclesiastical murals.

Day 3-4: Gondar & Simien Mountains

Drive to Gondar, the “Camelot of Africa,” to explore the UNESCO-listed Royal Enclosure and the Debre Birhan Selassie Church. We then ascend into the Simien Mountains National Park for dramatic cliffside vistas and encounters with the endemic Gelada baboons.

Day 5-7: Axum & Lalibela

Journey to Axum, the cradle of Ethiopian civilization, to see the ancient obelisks and the Church of St. Mary of Zion. The phase culminates in Lalibela, where you will spend two days exploring the eleven world-famous rock-hewn churches, including the iconic Bet Giyorgis.

Phase 2: The Danakil Depression (Days 8–10)

Day 8-9: Dallol & The Salt Desert

We transition to the extreme landscapes of the Afar region. Discover the Dallol hydrothermal field, a surreal landscape of neon-colored acidic pools and salt formations. In the evening, witness the legendary salt caravans at Lake Asale during a spectacular desert sunset.

Day 10: Erta Ale Volcano

Phase 3: South Omo Valley Circuit (Days 11–16)

Day 11-13: Jinka & Mursi Tribes

Fly south to Jinka to enter the cultural heart of the Omo Valley. We visit the Mursi people, known for their elaborate clay lip plates, and explore the South Omo Research Center to understand the complex social structures of the valley’s diverse ethnic groups.

Day 14-16: Turmi, Hamar Tribe & Rift Valley Return

In Turmi, we engage with the Hamar people and may witness the sacred bull-jumping ceremony. After visiting the Karo and Dassanech tribes along the Omo River, we return north through the Great Rift Valley, stopping at Lake Chamo for a boat safari before our final farewell dinner in Addis Ababa.
